About MeA big hi to all and welcome to my blog!
I am Supriya Das and I am an educator. I work with children and youth with visual impairment, deaf-blindness and multiple disabilities. My job involves working in close collaboration with families, educators and other service providers to help them develop teaching-learning techniques, educational and transition plans for their children and help in its execution. Here, I write about various teaching strategies and methods that I use with children having varying degree of disabilities (mostly blind, deaf-blind or blind with additional disabilities). I also post various reading and educational resources that the parents and significant others can refer to in order to help their children grow, learn and gain independence. In addition, I share a lot of real life inspirational stories of my students, friends and colleagues with or without disabilities that we can read, relate and get inspired. Having a right attitude is what I believe in and the right attitude is to have empathy not sympathy. My message to the world, " Never stop learning, discover your passion in life, do the things you love, because life is too precious to spend it just like that." |
How did it all start? |
Well, I have shared this story nearly a thousand times with people so far and here it goes again....
I wished to study Social Works after my Bachelors and serve in the rural communities of India. Things were moving as were planned. However, just at the right time, I came across a news paper article that talked about children with special needs and the dire needs of special educators in India. I did not think for a second and decided to take this up. I am extremely thankful to my mentors, family, friends and colleagues for their endless support, guidance and their belief in me. Today, my work is like the food for my soul. |
